Solar eclipses are spectacular sights! For centuries, total solar eclipses were omens of terror, but they are now attractions drawing thousands upon thousands of travelers. There is much more to eclipses than meets the eye, though. This course will delve into the science behind solar eclipses and place a heavy emphasis on observation.
Historical accounts of past total solar eclipses are both fascinating and numerous. However, this course will skip all of that and focus just on the practical knowledge and techniques necessary to thoroughly enjoy any solar eclipse - partial, annular, or total.
Astronomy educator Zack Stockbridge lives a few yards from the centerline of the path of the 2017 Great American Total Solar Eclipse and has spent a year planning and immersing himself in solar viewing and all things eclipse. Although nothing beats an in-person, hands-on workshop, this course offers more information than the Basic and Intermediate Eclipse Viewing college continuing education courses he teaches.
When a solar eclipse approaches, many people get excited at the prospect of seeing such a spectacle but very few know much any details of what is about to happen. This course will make you one of the few people truly well-informed and prepared for what many people describe as a life-changing experience!
